The are few things so simply pleasing as waking up early. Everything is quiet before the rest of the world wakes up, and by 3 o'clock in the afternoon you feel like the day should be ending because you've already done so much. On a less productive note, waking up early means you've earned a nap for the day. Lucky you! As a motivation for getting myself up early, I've created a morning routine that I get excited to get out of bed for.
1. Open the curtains - enough said. Needless to say a little sunshine makes waking up a whole lot easier, but even if it's raining at least you'll know the weather!
2. Stretch - this step used to take the form of me wiggling around in my bed for a little while, but I discovered that actually physically climbing out of bed and moving around boosts my energy more than (well, at least before) the consumption of any sort of caffeine stimulant. I've recently started to incorporate these yoga moves to get the blood flowing.
3. Skimm. Yes, that's with two m's. My new favorite news sharing platform - The Skimm - gives you a neat (and very witty) summary of the previous day's events in your inbox every morning. The tone is conversational but extremely informative. Its a great way to keep yourself informed, and is also a quick and easy source for conversation starters for the day.
4. Blog round-up. There are so many amazing blogs out there but there are a few I check daily for an early dose of inspiration.
Most post early and daily, so they are ready to go when I wake up.
They are:
Cupcakes and Cashmere
LemonStripes
The Fashionable Hostess
Heart of Light
The women who write these blogs are motivated, clever, and original and I have yet to be disappointed.
5. Tea or coffee - depending on the mood I'm in this step could either come before or after I delve in to my computer-related routine. Tea (with lemon and honey) if I'm feeling leisurely, coffee if I'm feeling motivated.
What's your morning routine?
