My Winter Reading List
JANUARY 1, 2014 – MARCH 31, 2014.
My list of books to read is getting impossibly long, and the fact that I keep bumping new ones to the front is by no means helping me chip away at it. It probably doesn’t help that I have virtually limitless access to all my favorite kinds of books through my amazing job (Special Markets at Random House) and that I get to hear all of the pre-release buzz as the books are being finalized.
I have very peculiar taste in books, and really in life. That being said, I love a lot of things. History, fantasy (think less Xena, more Hunger Games), Sci-Fi, Disney princess, DIY) so I always need to judge books for myself. That being said, I’m seriously nerding- out this winter. Here is the tippity-top of my “to read” list for the winter. Because they are all about subjects I love so much, I figured they would be ideal for curling up with under a heated blanket with a big mug of tea.

Here goes:
1. Divergent – In preparation for the movie. Check!
2. Insurgent (because you can’t not finish the series, obviously)
3. Allegiant (and again)

3. Allegiant (and again)
4. Red Rising - Perfect for the end-of-Hunger-Games withdrawal. HIGHLY recommend it, plus the author is hunk-a-licious. Plus there are more books coming for the series. Irresistible.
5. May Cause Miracles – This is more of an occasional read, for when I need a little inspirational boost.
6. Swing High – My life mantra, basically. This is a cute little gift book from Hardie Grant, all about recalling and reinvigorating childhood routines to bring happiness to everyday life. For example: "trophy up your fridge" with your accomplishments. My fabulous mother got me a giant pack of Crayola crayons and a Disney Princess coloring book for Christmas and I can't even tell you the wonders it has worked for stress relief. Ever just smelled a box of crayons? Memory overload. This is going to be a good one.
7. The Book Thief – Check! I can honestly say that this book had a profound effect on me. I’m talking crying in the middle of a crowded living room as it ends type of effect. READ. IT. Now.
8. Glitter and Glue
9. Labor Day (before the movie!)
10. Monuments Men (before the movie!)
11. Night Film – a big ol’ buzz-worthy title at Random House. Its been sitting on my desk for 5 weeks. Oops.
12. Congratulations, by the way. This book was born out of an 8-minute graduation speech George Sanders delivered at Syracuse University in May of 2013. It is all about kindness. I can dig it.
13. One More Thing by B.J. Novak, aka one of the head writers for The Office. I have heard fabulous things about this collection of short stories and can't wait to bang them out on the subway.
14. Ender's Game - Because I don't like to be behind on trends, even though I sort of already missed this one. Have to read it before I see the movie!

Re-read:
15. Catching Fire (because I cannot get over it)
16. Mockingjay (because I need reminding as I nerd-out in preparation for the movie (set to release 1 day after my birthday!)

17-23. ALL Harry Potters (because if you’re going to do it, do it big). I'm a sucker for re-reading books that just plain make me happy. These fit the bill.
Since these last few involve the mass shipment of large books from my parents house to my not-so-large apartment, those may have to come in waves.
This post is an attempt to get myself moving on these titles before my deadline, which I am officially announcing as March 31, 2014. I am making no promises, since I keep discovering more every day. Stay tuned...
